If you own a swimming pool, it is critical that you keep up with all the necessary maintenance. If you neglect your pool, you better be prepared to pay for expensive repairs to make up for your lack of maintenance. To help motivate you to keep up with the maintenance, the following is a look at some of the problems that can occur if you don’t take proper care of your pool.

1. Green Algae Grow

The first thing that pool owners will probably notice if they start getting lax with their pool maintenance regimen is the growth of algae in the pool. Perhaps you remember how this very problem embarrassed the host of the 2016 Rio Olympics. The algae isn’t just unsightly and slimy feeling. It also can clog the filter and damage it.

2. The Pool May Crack

One of the scariest problems associated with poor pool maintenance is damage to the pool liner. Whether you have a concrete pool or a vinyl pool liner, neglecting to follow the scheduled maintenance routine will lead to cracks over time. Sunset Pools and Spas, a company specializing in pool resurfacing in Chicago, warns that if these cracks are not repaired in a timely manner, they will expand more quickly than you can possibly imagine.

3. Burn out the Filter

Algae is not the only thing that can damage your pool filter. You have to stay on top of the skimming of your pool if you want to avoid having leaves and other debris clog the pool filter. Likewise, you have to clean your pool filter as directed by the pool manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. Keeping your pool clean with regular maintenance will keep your filter and the rest of your pool in much better condition.

4. People Could Get Sick

Believe it or not, you could make someone sick if you are not rigorous about your pool maintenance. Failing to keep your pool water clean and chemically balanced can lead to lots of nasty bacteria taking up residence in your swimming pool, and this will not be good for anybody’s health who is unfortunate enough to swallow some water while they are in your pool.

It isn’t hard to take care of your pool maintenance. Just follow the scheduled maintenance routine from your pool’s manufacturer. Not only will maintaining your pool properly make swimming in your pool more enjoyable, but it will help ensure your pool stays in good condition for many years to come.
